Knowing how to use a computer is increasingly important in our world. Adults who don’t know the basics of computer use are at a
disadvantage when it comes to finding a job and navigating life.
Anyone can take an assessment by going to digitalliteracyassessment.org. At the end of each assessment, the test taker receives a results page
showing the skills mastered and those that need improvement.
Individuals can earn a certificate for any of the modules by passing with a score of 85% or higher. To earn a certificate, they must take the
proctored assessment while being proctored at a Northstar location. Napoleon Public Library is a Northstar location.
Individuals may take the assessment as many times as needed to pass and gain a certificate, but we recommend a course of instruction in between retesting.
Earning a certificate is free and available to anyone who needs to improve or show their computer skills. Closed captioning is available, and screen readers are supported.
The assessments are based on the Northstar Digital Literacy Standards, which were developed through a collaborative, community-based process originating in St. Paul, Minnesota. The standards are designed to help people gain the computer skills necessary in today’s world, especially for employment.
